Client Overview

Uisce Éireann is the national water utility responsible for delivering essential water and wastewater services across Ireland. With a large, field-based workforce, they require a reliable, secure, and efficient mobile infrastructure to support operations. To enhance workforce productivity and streamline mobile processes, Uisce Éireann engaged MWS to design and implement a robust mobile architecture.

The Challenge

Our specialists were tasked with the deployment of new Mobile Work Order Management solution (Crew Works) and underlying Mobility Platform specifically focusing on design, configuration, testing, hardware selection and deployment for approximately 2,000 Uisce Éireann Field Force users across Ireland deploying Samsung Android Devices.

The Approach

Our team partnered closely with Uisce Éireann to design and deliver a robust mobility platform tailored to the organisation’s needs. Engaging with multiple business units, we helped define clear requirements and supported UÉ throughout the tendering process, leading to the appointment of a Managed Service Provider (MSP). As the project’s Technical Lead, we collaborated with the MSP to architect and develop the solution, ensuring it aligned with UÉ’s business and technical goals. Acting as solution architect, we validated the design against the defined requirements and successfully guided it through UÉ’s architecture approval process.

Following approval, we led the provisioning and support of a pilot programme to test and refine the solution across the organisation. This was followed by a nationwide rollout to over 2,000 users, where MWS provided Level 3 support, technical training, and field resources to ensure a smooth transition. Throughout the rollout, we maintained close collaboration with the MSP and key vendors to address challenges and uphold service quality. By deeply engaging with UÉ’s users and business application teams, we ensured the solution aligned with their priorities—delivering a scalable, effective platform that met the needs of the entire organisation.

Results & Impact

Since taking on Field Force mobility support for Uisce Éireann, Mobile Working Solutions has delivered significant value through close collaboration with business and application teams. We have supported the deployment, configuration, security, and management of new mobile applications, ensuring alignment with business needs and compliance requirements. To future-proof operations, we developed a comprehensive asset lifecycle plan to guide the evaluation and replacement of end-of-life devices. Additionally, we documented all Mobility Team processes and procedures, creating a structured knowledge base that supports consistent service delivery, enables rapid onboarding, and drives continuous improvement.

Our work also included strategic vendor engagement with partners such as Samsung, Apple, VMware, and Lookout to stay ahead of product updates, system enhancements, and investment opportunities. We played a key role in major initiatives such as the corporate Intune implementation, contributing to architectural design and providing expert Level 3 support for both iOS and Android platforms. By integrating Intune and Azure with Apple Business Manager, we enabled more efficient, secure device management. To accelerate deployment and improve efficiency, we introduced device staging and zero-touch provisioning, along with a secure approach to managing user credentials—further enhancing the reliability and scalability of UÉ’s mobile ecosystem.

Client Overview

Irish Water is the national water utility responsible for delivering essential water and wastewater services across Ireland. With a large, field-based workforce, they require a reliable, secure, and efficient mobile infrastructure to support operations. To enhance workforce productivity and streamline mobile processes, Irish Water engaged MWS to design and implement a robust mobile architecture.

The Challenge

Managing a dispersed workforce of 650 Meter Programme Construction Crews and 90 HSQE & Field Engineering Inspection Engineers required a scalable and secure mobile solution. Irish Water needed an enterprise-grade mobile architecture that ensured seamless communication, device security, and application management across multiple hardware and software platforms. Additionally, integrating mobile technology into existing business workflows while maintaining compliance and operational efficiency posed a significant challenge.

The Solution

Approach: MWS worked closely with Irish Water’s Work and Asset Management (WAM) Team and the Technical Delivery Manager to design a secure, scalable mobile architecture. Leveraging the Vodafone network and SOTI MobiControl MDM, we ensured centralised device management across a fleet of Getac and Samsung Note Android devices. Our consultancy focused on aligning mobile technology with business needs, enhancing workforce mobility, and streamlining communication.

Implementation: We collaborated with Vodafone partners to develop and deploy HSQE and field inspection applications, overseeing wireframe design, UX testing, and field rollout. A structured mobile device build and deployment process was established, ensuring seamless integration with SharePoint 365 Online and smooth transition to ongoing support. By optimising mobile workflows and securing device management, we enabled Irish Water’s teams to work more efficiently with improved data access and reporting.

Results & Impact

The implementation of a secure and scalable mobile architecture significantly improved workforce effectiveness and productivity. Centralised device management streamlined operations, reducing downtime and security risks. The integration of HSQE and field engineering inspection solutions enabled teams to complete tasks more efficiently, enhancing compliance and reporting accuracy.

With a future-proofed mobile infrastructure in place, Irish Water now benefits from improved data insights, optimised workforce mobility, and seamless communication across teams. The success of this project demonstrates the power of strategic mobile technology in driving operational efficiency at an enterprise level.
